Data centers are an essential component of AI infrastructures, where massive amounts of digital information are stored and processed. These facilities use significant natural resources such as land and water, and pose enormous risks to the health of individuals, communities, and the environment.

Recent scholarship has begun to generate quantitative evidence of these impacts, contributing to a holistic understanding of AI's implications for community health. This body map compiles key data points to advocate for stronger regulation and community organizing around AI.

The body we portray here is not a neutral body. Data centers disproportionately affect communities that are already disadvantaged by systemic inequalities, and who live and thrive in already stressed natural and built environments, including but not limited to indigenous, poor communities, people of color, the elderly, and disabled individuals.
